Reverend Robert Arthur died peacefully on October 17, 2019 having lived a full life of service with many achievements. Rev. Voice was predeceased by his parents Christopher and Amy Voice (neé Harris) and by his brother Jack. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Evelyn of 48 years; and by son Norman (Heather) and their children Nolan and Kinley; brother Reg (Christine); daughter Catherine from a previous marriage; and numerous other relatives and dear friends. He was born October 3, 1930 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and came to Vancouver with his family in 1937, graduated from King George High School; attended UBC and later graduated from Normal School; taught elementary school in Port Moody and became a school principal in Coquitlam; graduated as a bio-psychologist from Taylor University; ordained as a clergyman 1956 in the Christian Apostolic Church, Vancouver – later rose into the Episcopate; founded a Parochial School for the church (grades 1-12) for which he was the superintendent.
Under the aegis of the Federal Government, he taught New Canadians the English language for many years; held remedial education classes for both elementary and high school students. From 1979 – 80 he was president of the Vancouver and District Council of Christian Churches; was privileged to welcome New Canadians at the Citizenship Court; authored and published audio cassette tapes entitled “Dynamic Principles of Successful Living”; served as Chaplain for St. John Ambulance for 32 years and was honoured by being made an Officer in the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem. For 16 years he worked for the Federal Government Medical Services as a Counsellor and Consultant on Native Indian Reserves for children, teenagers and adults in the North-East Zone of B.C.; was appointed Member of the Executive Committee as Canadian Representative of the Society of Indian Psychologists. Dr. Voice completed additional courses in Divinity, Philosophy, Masters and Metaphysics authored by Dr. William Marcus Taylor. He was a gifted speaker and enjoyed lecturing locally and internationally including Spain, Singapore, New York and Florida. His many interests included music, sound and lighting. Dr. Voice was Pastor of the Christian Apostolic Church until it closed in 2013.
To sum up his active and beneficent life, Robert Voice would say how grateful he was to God for all the many blessings bestowed upon him. “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalm 100:5. His final years were filled with the challenges that accompany dementia. In keeping with his wishes, his memorial will be a simple family gathering.
