It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rosa (Ottobrina) Spartano, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She passed away on June 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She is predeceased by her devoted husband, Antonio, who passed away in 2006. Rosa is lovingly remembered by her children: Caterina (Ettore), Josie (Victor), Connie (Paul), Tonina (Steve), and Joe (Franca). She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends in both Canada and Italy.
Rosa was born on October 8, 1929, in Albi, Catanzaro, Italy, to her parents Pasquale and Concetta. She immigrated to Canada in 1951 to join the love of her life, Antonio, in Port Alice. They later settled in Vancouver, where they built their life and raised their family.
Our mother was a warm, vibrant, and fun-loving person who was always the life of the party. She had a passion for cooking and took great joy in hosting family gatherings. Her door was always open, and she welcomed everyone with love. She placed her family above all else and taught us the importance of love, respect, and togetherness.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at George Derby Care Centre for their kindness, compassion, and support over the past six years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2nd at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver, BC. Private family entombment will follow at the Abbey Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park.
