At the age of 86, Samuele (Sam) Buonassisi of Burnaby, BC passed away peacefully in Palliative Care at Burnaby General Hospital. Sam was born on February 26, 1934 to Maria (Cotugno) and Luigi Buonassisi in Orsara di Puglia, Italy. Sam and his family immigrated to Canada in 1953. He married Jeannette (Moreau) Buonassisi in 1959. They had four children, Mary (Wilkerson), Paul, Tom and James. Sam was a successful entrepreneur, starting as a carpenter with his father in Italy, and continued in the trade in Canada before purchasing Magnet Hardware in 1965, which began his presence and contribution to the Commercial Drive community. Sam was an avid skier, golfer, and traveller, and loved spending time with his family and friends over a good meal. Over the years, Sam faithfully attended and ushered the 8:00 mass at Holy Cross Parish and was always involved in their community events, especially the annual Holy Cross Salmon BBQ. Sam had a great enthusiasm for life and no challenge was impossible for him. Sam will be dearly missed by all. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jeannette, his daughter Mary (Ed Wilkerson), his sons Paul (Marybel), Tom (Angie), James (Cathy), his sister Lucia Bondi, his brother Peter (Andrea), his sister in-law- Ann, and his grandchildren Michael, Emily, Sarah, Ella, Sam, Oliva and Cecilia. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, and his brother Leonard.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday March 6, 2020 at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Ave, Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's memory can kindly be made directly to the Burnaby Hospital Palliative Care Unit 2D, where Sam received extraordinary care and compassion from his palliative care team and care aids to which we owe a great gratitude.
