Schooling was interrupted due to Second World War.
1936
Had her elder sister graduating from Tak Ying Girls’ School and starting working as a primary school teacher there.
1941 - 1945
Due to war, unfortunately lost the whereabouts of Ming Sum and her little son, even though looking for them with all means.
Ming Sum and her little son were probably on board a ferry to Macau, which was reported to have been bombed in war.
During the 3-year-and-8-month period when Hong Kong was occupied by Japan, engaged in clerical work at the Taikoo Dockyard (太古船塢) in Causeway Bay-Quarry Bay, Hong Kong, each day walking from and back home (at Wanchai), often had to flee away from air bombing.
Was then the sole family bread-earner due to a halt in remittances from her father (Gin Kok Lore 羅振覺) from Canada, as a result of Canada being an Enemy Country of Japan during the war time.

Was a well-received actress participating in about 40 films in Hong Kong, though not being the lead actress,
Here is the link for a short extract of a film in youtube :

Setting up and running a restaurant at Ma Tau Wei Road in Hunghom, under the name “Kiu Hing Cafe (僑興茶餐廳)“, with capital mainly provided by her father (who was then in Canada) , operating in collaboration with her mother (So Chun 蘇珍).
Unfortunately, due to inexperience, lack of business knowledge, keen competitions, as well as some frauds/thefts by a couple of employees together with a couple of relatives, the Restaurant was run at a sustained and worsening loss situation. The business was finally sold at an unfair and considerably low price to a creditor/supplier, leaving substantial liabilities to shoulder.
1957 - 1959
Had her father retiring and returning to Hong Kong.
Her father got a stroke in about 1958, resulting in walking disability.
Her father was then mainly under the care of her mother at home, assisted by her.

****** A Message for my Respectful Mom ******
Dearest Mom,
You have gone so suddenly!
We are all missing you so much, so much!
Mom, you are a great great mom!
You had got a lot of hardship in bringing us up, struggling among years of difficulties.
You had given us your tender care and your deep love.
You had taught us, with patience all the time, to go the right ways.
Mom, for long, I knew some day, sooner or later, you had to go.
So, I did treasure so much all the days that I had been living with you!
Yet, I had not been prepared to let you go so early and so suddenly!
I know you were absolutely unready for that too!
Your recent purchases in Hong Kong were meant for use in the days and years to come. But now, …….
Mom, I know your leaving us may be interpreted as an unavoidable destiny, or summoning by God, our Heavenly Father. Your duties on Earth have all been excellently discharged.
Mom, I think you have already got re-union with grandmom and granddad and also with those relatives and friends that have already gone there. We wish that, together with them, you would be enjoying everlasting happiness and blessings, embraced in the love of God!
Mom, it sounds somewhat comforting that your leaving us is sort of unloading all worldly sufferings and trivial concerns, after bearing them so hard for over 82 years (or 88 years, to be exact). As commonly said, your longevity upto this age, is already a scarce blessing, particularly as you were not alone throughout, and you could manage your daily life without actual assistance from others. Thanks to God! Needless to say, I did always wish that you would go far beyond this age.
We should also be thankful that you had just met relatives and friends in our recent trip back to Hong Kong.
Mom, please wait peacefully for our reunion with you too, some days within this century.
Mom, we always pray for you!
Mom, your life here had been so brilliant! Your presence had been so great a treasure to us!
You had utmost upright character, and you were always so kind to everybody.
Mom, for most of your years (especially during my childhood), you had been facing marked bullying, from different sources; but even so, you just always repaid such with forgiveness, reconciliation and love, rather than hatred or battling back, though you must have already got badly hurt inside yourself!
Mom, you had been our great example!
Mom, you are really so great and so respectful!
(Bullying could be in the form of either words, behaviours, attitude, misrepresentations, or lack of due concern or care.)
Mom, you had been a lady with outstanding wisdom and well-sustaining memory ability!
You had been a lady with utmost perseverance and patience!
You had been very brave in face of hardship, sicknesses, pains, or family issues!
Whenever anyone in the family happened to come across an endangering issue, you did manage to resolve it, with bravery and wisdom.
Mom, you had been suffering, for so many years, from foot pains due to foot corns (which were gradually developed from footwear during your bread-earning days as well as due to your being always too hard-working over the years.)
Mom, you had been suffering from cardiac problem for 9-1/2 years and you had been very diligent in taking proper medication to combat it, for maintaining your health.
Mom, you had been so brave and persevering in your recent flying back from Hong Kong while being badly sick!
Mom, your behaviours had been so noble and your outward appearance had been so nice-looking!
Despite all sorts of hardship, you managed to be optimistic, so that you had a peaceful mind and you were always displaying so kind a look as well! Your internal beauty is outwardly reflected and recorded by your photos, whether taken during your young days or subsequently – as delighting memory for us, thanks to God!
Mom, although you had not got the chance of getting proper secondary education (due to the ugly Second World War), you had been so cultured and so elegant in your manners!
Mom, starting from the horrible Second World War, you had been the worrying-but-brave bread-earner for the whole family until we got brought up to work one by one in later years. You had suffered from sustained and immense hardship of all sorts during all those years.
Mom, let me conclude and summarize your brilliant and respectful life with 10 boastful Chinese characters:
德慧兼雅緻 毅勇偉母親 (as put on the front page of the memorial video)
Mom, you absolutely deserve this graceful statement in description of your celebrated life on Earth!
Though you seldom explicitly said that you love us so much, yet your actions spoke louder than your words!
I am most proud of having you as my respectful great great mom! Thankful to God!
Mom, we all wish that you would be enjoying everlasting happiness and blessings in Heaven, embraced in the love of God, our Heavenly Father, together with those relatives and friends that are already there!
蒙主寵沐愛 永享樂天福 (as put on the front page of the memorial video)
Mom, God bless you!
We always pray for you!
Mom, we love you so much!
Everything recalls our treasured nice days together with you!
Mom, you are always living in our minds and hearts, ever and forever!
Ever salute from:
Your beloved son, John (with other family members) - January 2014
