We are heartbroken to announce that Silvio Bicego passed away peacefully on March 23, at the VGH Palliative Care Unit. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucia (2014) of 60 years, siblings, Rita, Giuseppe, Marino, brother-in-law Giuseppe and sister-in-law, Teresa. He is survived by his loving family; son Romeo, daughter-in-law Michele, grandchildren Shaun and Christa, sister-in-laws Concettina and Anna, brother Antonio, Tony and Maria Paladino and the many nieces and nephews in BC, Alberta and Italy.
Silvio was born in Valdagno, Italy and made the long and solo journey to Vancouver in 1955. He met and fell in love with Lucia in Vancouver and they married shortly after. They both worked very hard over the years to build a better life. They also enjoyed having family and many friends over to share a meal and a glass of wine, or two.
In 1980 Silvio and Lucia were very proud to purchase acreage in the south Okanagan and to pursue a dream of owning a vineyard. Again, with hard work they moulded the land and hand planted thousands of vines to create one of only a few vineyards in the area. They built a home that was always open to family and friends to enjoy.
Silvio loved to escape the Okanagan winters by travelling to Mexico, where they enjoyed the warmer weather and relaxing before another season of viticulture. Unfortunately these trips came to an end when Lucia suffered a stroke and Silvio was her care giver for 17 years.
Silvio was a founding member of the Penticton Italian club. They arranged many socials that included Italian style Dinners, BBQ's, and bocce tournaments.
We would also like to thank the staff at Havenhill, Villa Carital, Youville and all of the staff at VGH who made his last days comfortable.
In lieu of flowers please make donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon or the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
