It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Mrs. Sun Sing (Woo) CHAN (陳胡辛成) on February 22, 2019, in Vancouver at the age of 95. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Ping Cheung Chan; children, Elsa Shuk Yee, Isaac Man Hang (Silvian Tong), Cindy Kar Yee (Wolfram Lunscher), and Louise Lok Yee (Tom Ma); and grandchildren Eugene Lunscher, Nolan Lunscher, and Stephanie Chan.
Mrs. Chan was born on December 28, 1923, in Canton (Guangzhou), China. She graduated from Lingnan University in Canton in 1950 with a degree in medicine. She served as a doctor at the Violet Peel medical clinic in Hong Kong before immigrating to Canada. She married Dr. Ping Cheung Chan, her medical school classmate, in 1952.
Her family and friends remember her as a kind person who was selfless and passionate about helping others. Among her fondest memories are her teenage years at True Light Middle School in Canton and Hong Kong and her work as a doctor in Hong Kong serving many patients in need. In Vancouver, she very much enjoyed regular gatherings with friends and former classmates from the alumni associations of True Light Middle School, Puiying Middle School, and Lingnan University.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ocean View Funeral Home in the chapel, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C. A small, private funeral service will be held separately at another time.
Should family members and friends desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help MD students at the UBC Faculty of Medicine. Please visit tinyurl.com/UBC-MD-Students-Bursary
