It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Susan Helen Williams, on August 15, 2026, at the age of 93. Susan (known as Susie) was born in Amity, OR on July 15, 1933, the youngest of 7 siblings.
She will be deeply missed by her four daughters: Loretta (Robert) Houben and grandson Matthew; Leona Williams (and grandsons Colin and Paul); Marlene (Dan) Morgan; and Marie (Robert) Braun (and granddaughter Ashley and grandson James). Her husband, John (known as Jack) pre-deceased her in death only 6 days previously, and we know they are reunited with Jesus Christ forever in Heaven.
Susie came to know Christ as a young girl and attended the Apostolic Faith church for most of her life, first in Dallas OR where she met her future husband on a blind date when he was visiting from Canada, and then later in Vancouver BC. She corresponded with Jack by handwritten letters, with only one trip to Canada to see what a foreign city looked like, until becoming engaged in June. A whirlwind marriage followed on September 3, 1955, in a garden wedding. Amazingly, they would have celebrated 71 years together in September of this year.
Susie worked for one year at the Bank of Nova Scotia at Broadway and Commercial, while saving for a house in which to raise a family. Her one goal was to have four daughters, which she accomplished. First a little son, Martin James, was born in December 1957, but sadly passed away only 3 days later. He was buried in Babyland at Ocean View Cemetery, and the daughters always knew about him and visited his little grave often.
The daughters followed within thirteen more years, and Susie had her days filled with the chaos of raising females in a home with one bathroom. She enjoyed every minute, and was a magnificent cook, making scrumptious ham or roast dinners and baking delicious treats for desserts and after school snacks. Her apple pie was a delight loved by all.
Susie was a proficient gardener and had beautiful rhododendrons, dahlias, chrysanthemums, and seasonal flowers in her large yard, along with a prolific vegetable garden. She had many personal hobbies including knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. She made many gifts for her daughters and grandchildren.
Susie also enjoyed playing on her childhood piano, shipped to Canada from the old farmhouse in Oregon in the 1960s. She loved to relax when the chores of the day were done, playing the old hymns of the faith. She was an accomplished organ player and played for morning church services at the Apostolic Faith church at Kingsway and Rupert each Sunday.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Helen Brutke; son, Martin James Williams; her many siblings, and her dear husband Jack.
We cannot describe the sudden shock of losing Susie, but we know and believe we’ll meet again.
