Mr. Wah Chiu Lui

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of 呂華超 Lui Wah Chiu in his sleep on January 20th, 2022 at the age of 103. He was born on December 4th, 1918 in Guangdong Province, China in the city of 河南. As a young child around 10 years old he met his future wife 呂朱瑞珍 Lui Chu Sui Chun who lived on the north side of the river. They both came from large families. Soon after World War II broke out, they and their respective families migrated to Hong Kong where they settled and built their family together.

To us, he is our Papa 爸爸, Yeye 爺爺, Gung Gung 公公, and Tai Yeye 太爺, Tai Gung Gung 太公. After living a full life and retiring, 呂華超 Lui Wah Chiu immigrated to Canada and honed his singing for over 37 years with the Vancouver Chinese Choir Association, performing Chinese Opera, taking long walks and practicing qigong.

呂華超 Lui Wah Chiu was preceded in death by his wife .呂朱瑞珍 Lui Chu Sui Chun and his children Franklin, Henry, John and Juliana. He is survived by his children Maureen, Maria and Charles, in-laws Shirley Sum, Yan Lam, Maria Lui (Leung), May Lui, Cynthia Lui and Frank Ma.

His fourteen grandchildren (spouse): Arthur (Sylvia Lee), Gilbert (Eva Chan), Kelvin, Galen (Apple Chan), Kathy (Peter Ho), Calvin, Elaine (Raymond Shiu), Gregory, Annette (Jason George-John), Jeffrey (Claire Yang), Bernice (Stefan Niculescu), Jessica (Albert Kim), Johnson (Marilen Lui) and Michelle.

And eleven great-grandchildren: Jethro, Jovina, Jeffery, Qill, Crispy, Tyler, Nathaniel, Theodore Cecil, Matthew John, Astrid and Haley.

A celebration of the life of 呂華超 Lui Wah Chiu will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Thursday February 17th followed by a Requiem Mass and Interment on Friday February 18th.
