It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wing Jin Lee on February 28th 2025 at age 99, in Richmond, British Columbia. Wing Jin was born in Hoi Pei, China on May 19th 1925, the eldest son of 5 in a family of humble farmers. From an early age, he faced great challenges, and experienced the hardships of World War II / the Japanese Invasion of China and political turmoil after the war.
At just 15 years old, he left for Peking alone where he began an apprenticeship with a jeweller. Over the next 3 years, he honed his craft and was entrusted with traveling to various unfamiliar cities to conduct business on his own.
In the early 1950s, seeking a better future for his immediate and extended family, he moved to Hong Kong, a city where he knew no one and he did not speak the dominant dialect. Despite these obstacles, his dedication and hard work were defining traits throughout his life, ensuring that those around him had opportunities he had once lacked.
Among his proudest accomplishments was his generous donation of a school and various resources to his hometown, a testament to his deep commitment to improve the lives of those who came after him.
In 1994, Wing Jin, seeking serenity in his retirement years, together with his wife and daughters, he relocated to British Columbia, Canada, where he found tranquility amidst the stunning natural beauty.
In his youth, Wing Jin enjoyed playing football, tennis, and bowling before developing a deep passion for golf. After a long day of work, he’d unwind with a game of Solitaire. Fascinated by his cultural heritage, he was an enthusiastic fan of Peking Opera and had a deep interest in history. In retirement, he dedicated hours to mastering Chinese calligraphy.
