Mrs. Won Ling Chang, affectionately known as Lena, passed away on March 10th, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound legacy. Born in Hong Kong, Lena embarked on a journey to Canada in 1960 as a picture bride, seeking new beginnings and opportunities. She was married to Foon Kin Chang in the 1960s, and upon her arrival to Canada, Lena immersed herself in the fabric of Canadian life, diligently attending English classes for newcomers. Her commitment and perseverance bore fruit when she proudly obtained her citizenship in September 1967, a testament to her determination and ambition.
Lena's presence extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a vibrant thread woven into the tapestry of her community, actively engaging in various organizations and initiatives. As a lifetime member of the Hoy Ping Benevolent Association of Canada, Lena exemplified unwavering dedication to service and support for those in need. She was also a member of Strathcona Community Centre Association, Chinese Cultural Centre, Killarney Community Centre Society as well as Killarney Chinese Seniors Group.
Lena is survived by her daughter Diane of Calgary; as well as her sons Terry (Jeanette); Tony (Francine), Stanley (June); and Patrick (Melinda) – all of Vancouver. Lena is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher, Candace (Patrick), Adam (So Won), Andrew, Trevor, Kayla, and her great grandchildren Aileen and Aiden. Her beloved husband, Foon Kin, predeceases her.
Lena's presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she so dearly enriched.
A Funeral Service to Celebrate Lena’s life will take place at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Wednesday March 27th at 1:00pm. There will be a burial to follow afterwards at 2:30pm.
