With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, and dear friend, Mr. Yat Fan Chui, who left us on September 1, 2026, at Burnaby Hospital in British Columbia, Canada, at the remarkable age of 100.
Born into a landed gentry family in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China, Mr. Chui faced early adversity when his family fortunes declined, leaving home at age sixteen to work across the country. Though he lacked formal higher education, he graduated from the "school of life" with keen intelligence and a diligent spirit. In 1950, he moved to Hong Kong, where he founded a tutorial center, married his former student, established a successful trading company, and later founded three prominent magazine companies under his pen name, Xu Xing.
A profound lover of culture, Mr. Chui discovered a passion for the arts during a trip to Europe at age 47. He went on to study visual arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, mastering oil painting, sculpture, and ceramics. In 1988, he retired and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada, where his optimistic, helpful nature made him a cherished member of the local community. An adventurous spirit, he frequently traveled back to Europe to tour art museums, bravely navigating with a walker in his final years. He leaves behind a home rich with his personal artistic creations and an extensive private library. He truly lived by the motto that nothing was "impossible to accomplish."
He will be profoundly missed by his loving wife, Mo Lan Chui, family, and a wide circle of global friends.
