

Tsai Yen Shan, nicknamed Yanzong, was born in 1934 in Shanziliao (now known as Long shan Village), Qigu Township, Tainan County, Taiwan.
He is the youngest of three brothers and four sisters. Yen Shan's father, Tsai Desheng was in business of sales in dried fish; his mother Tsai Huang ran, from Jialixing, Taiwan was from a wealthy family.
Yen Shan attended his Primary School at Qigu Public School and graduated from Jiali Beimen Middle School Junior High School. He was often praised with good handwriting. When Yen Shan was young, he was exposed to his father's store, and shortly began interested in business. After graduating from junior high school, he started a small business in his residence in a barren fishing village, and learned the essentials skills of business management until he served in the military in 1954.
After completion of his military service in 1956, Yen Shan went to Taipei and worked in a cloth dyeing and finishing factory in Dongle Market, Dihua Street, which is known as Taiwan's textile wholesale distribution centre, and was well appreciated by the supervisor. In 1964, Yen Shan partnered with his friend Mr. Jiang, and was sponsored by his nephew Tsai Yinghe to establish "Qingchang Enterprise Company" to continue the business of textile cloth resin shaping and processing. Due to the company's concerted efforts, the company's performance started to flourish, so the business and scale expanded rapidly. Yen Shan first joined the dyeing and finishing textile business in 1965, and continued to purchase land in Bade Township, Taoyuan County in 1971 to build a factory. In May 1972, Yen Shan changed the company name to "Tengchang". Since then, the company's business has grown; it finally closed down in 1996 due to retirement. In addition to running Tengchang Company, Yen Shan has invested in electromechanical technology, submarine cable communication, tape production and other industries.
Throughout Yen Shan life, he had served his mother with the utmost filial piety. Yen Shan took care of her every day for 20 to 30 years , until his mother passed away at the age of 96. Yen Shan also took care of his relatives in every possible way. In addition to meeting the needs of his brothers and sisters from time to time, he also used hired numerous internal and external relatives to work in his factory in Tengchang.
Yen Shan married Xu Suzhou in his early years and had no heirs. He adopted a son Rong Yuan and a daughter Pei Lun. It is a pity that Rong Yuan passed away young. After Xu Suzhou's death, Yen Shan married Wu Yahoo, and they had two sons, Yuchao and Yuzhi, and a daughter, Jiayi. Yen Shan was very happy to have these two sons at the age of 65.
Yen Shan moved to Vancouver, Canada with his Yahoo and his children in 1996 to continue his children education. In 2000, the family returned to Taiwan, and later migrated to Canada again in 2013. Yen Shan's two sons are both well-educated. The eldest son, Yuchao, graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Canada, and is currently in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP); the eldest daughter-in-law, Cai Siwei, graduated from the same school and works in the customer service department of Rogers Communications Group. The second son, Yuzhi, also graduated from the same school and is currently working in a Biotechnology Company as a factory manager. The eldest daughter, Pei Lun, and the second daughter, Jia Yi, are both married, each have children, and each has their own career.
Yen Shan was always in good health in his early years without any serious illness. However, in 1993, at the age of 60, he felt chest tightness and other symptoms, and was diagnosed by a doctor for a coronary artery blockage. Yen Shan underwent coronary artery bypass surgery at Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Nearly 30 years later, Yen Shan went to the doctors again because of heart discomfort; Yen Shan was hospitalized twice in the emergency department in June and July 2023, and ended up with heart and lung failure. At 5:00 a.m. on the (twenty-seventh day of the lunar month), he passed away at the age of ninety.
Tsai Yen Shan passed away at the hospital. Although his wife, daughter, children and grandchildren, relatives and friends are very sad, his accomplishment benefited relatives and friends to have successful careers, good fortune and longevity. He has completed his merits and virtues so far in his life without regrets;
蔡府炎山老先生 生平事略
蔡公炎山,小名炎宗,1934年生於台灣台南縣七股鄉下山子寮(現名龍山村),在三兄弟四姊妹中排行老么。尊翁蔡德生經商,從事乾魚貨買賣;母親蔡黃染,佳里興人,大戶人家出身,裹小腳;家道殷實。
蔡公小學就讀七股公學校,畢業於佳里北門中學初中部,寫得一手好字。幼年時耳濡目染父親事業的經營,對經商產生濃厚興趣;初中畢業後,即在貧瘠漁村的住地,做起小本生意的買賣,習得商業經營的要領和技巧,直至1954年服兵役為止。
1956年軍中退役後,蔡公赴台北,於素有台灣紡織品批發集散地之稱的迪化街永樂市場,擔任一家布疋染整加工廠的外務員;任職期間吃苦耐勞、克勤克儉、績效卓著,頗得主管賞識。1964年蔡公與好友江先生合夥,並獲族親侄蔡英和出資贊助,成立「慶昌企業公司」,從事紡織品布疋樹脂定型加工事業,工廠租賃於板橋埔墘,台北總部及營業所設於迪化街。由於公司上下同心,戮力以赴,業績蒸蒸日上,故業務範圍與規模擴展迅速:先於1965年加入染整業務,續於1971年在桃園縣八德鄉購地自建廠房,1972年5月遷入使用,並將公司更名為「騰昌」。此後,公司業務更是突飛猛進;最終於1996年因經營階層年事已高結束營業。蔡公除經營騰昌公司外,曾投資機電科技、海纜通信、膠帶生產等行業。
蔡公事母至孝,母親老年由蔡公迎至其住處,每日噓寒問暖,直至母親96高齡辭世,長達二、三十年。蔡公對親戚的照顧也無微不至,除了常解兄姊不時之需,且大量進用內親外戚至騰昌工作;此外,在1960與1970年代,其台北八德路公寓住家,不時寄居北上求學、謀職的晚輩。
蔡公早年與許素珠成親,並無子嗣,自親戚家收養了一子榮源與一女佩倫,惜榮源英年早逝。許素珠辭世後,蔡公於吳雅釗結婚,育有二男裕超、裕智與一女佳怡。蔡公於60高齡,得此二子,甚感快慰。
