Yu Kuei Richard was born in Beijing, China November 21st, 1930, son of Wang, Yau Hung and Wong, Shuk Ching of Fukien, China. In 1959, Richard left China to pursue his education in the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Science at the University of Dijon, France. He obtained his Bachelor Degree at the University of Heidelberg, Germany in the institute of Hygiene and the Institute of Chemistry. He then completed his Master and Doctorate degree at the
University of Laval, Quebec in the Faculty of Sciences in 1978. He obtained numerous certifications which included teaching. He was a very conscientious
professor committed to guide his students on the right path in learning to avoid unnecessary detours in their life journey. He was a fervent speaker where his
lectures would end with unanimous applauds.
In 1966, Richard met his lovely wife, Siu Lan Laura Leung, in Hong Kong whom he determined to marry. They married in Germany April 17, 1968 and settled in Quebec, Canada where his 2 children were born: Isabella and Philippe. He was appointed Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pharmacology in the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Analytical Laboratory in the Center of Toxicology at the Hospital Centre of Laval University. His patriotic heart led him to found, with late Sister Laforest, the Chinese Association in Quebec to assist and support the Chinese immigrants and students newly arrived in Quebec.
Richard was also an avid researcher and published numerous publications and communications; he notably succeeded and obtained a patent for hair growth. However, three strokes and a heart attack confined his mind and soul to an uncooperative body. He has been a fighter for more than 20 years and was described to have nine lives. His love for his wife has sustained him through the greatest health challenges where he has experienced the Lord Jesus Christ. God has worked many miracles in his life to be a blessing to his surroundings even though confined to his wheelchair and bed. His cheerful smile and pleasant personality always drew people close to him. Richard was liked by all. Through his illness he had shown admirable strength, courage and great determination; more than one could imagine.
The Lord has a greater purpose and goodness, as He has now drawn Richard back to Him to rest peacefully.
We Love Richard and will keep on smiling in remembrance of you.
