Connie Jo Slagle Land, formerly of Lamesa and Burnet passed away on February 3, 2020 in Austin. Connie was born in Humboldt, Nebraska, May 30, 1950 to Robert Manville Slagle and Betty Fae (Withers) Slagle. She graduated from Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, California in 1968.
Connie married Ronnie Lamar Land on October 25, 1968 in Anaheim, California. They were married for 48 years before he passed away on May 2, 2017. The family moved to Lamesa in 1981 and later moved to Burnet in 2016. She retired from Texas Department of Criminal Justice in 2015. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Lamesa before moving her membership to First Baptist Church in Burnet. She was a member in the choir and handbells while attending Second Baptist and was active in family genealogy along with her husband. Connie also enjoyed sewing, making quilts and various items for her grandchildren. While living in Lamesa, Connie also worked for numerous doctors at the Medical Arts Hospital, pharmacy and EMS.
Connie is preceded in death by her late husband Ronnie Lamar Land, parents Robert Manville and Betty Fae Slagle, her sister Evelyn McAllister, and great grand-daughter Cora Jo Beseda. She is survived by her daughter Tonja K Jones of Lamesa, and daughter Rachael Ann Halford of Burnet; sisters, Anita Martin of Liberty Hill, Joy Fortune of Greencastle, IN., and Roberta Sprague and husband Leo Huoy of Buena Park, CA; many grandchildren, Myriah Beseda and husband, Trey Beseda of Marble Falls, TX, Tanner Jones of Burnet, TX, Matthew Jones of Lamesa, TX, Emmalie Saljoughi of Austin, Andrew Alaniz and Eryn Halford of Burnet; great grandson Carter Beseda of Marble Falls and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also has many close family friends made throughout the years.
The family wishes to express our appreciation to Dr. Khambati, Dr. Pirwitz, Dr. Shahnaz, Dr. Bissett, Dr. Kessler, Dr. Neely, Dr. Smith, her family practitioner, cardiologist team, ID team, and cardiac surgeons. Special thanks to Ascension Seton Medical Center, the wonderful nurses on the 3rd and 4th floors, amazing nurses in Critical Care, as well as Ms. Nelson with Seton Home Care. Thank you to everyone who loved her and prayed with us.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, February 9 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. Committal Services will be held at Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Killeen, Texas on Monday, February 10 at 1 PM with arrangements under the directions of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home of Burnet. A memorial service will be held on February 15, 2020, at Second Baptist Church in Lamesa, TX at 11:00am.
