Edith Rose Cravey, age 80, of Burnet, Texas passed away in the early morning of February 13, 2011. She was born on April 20, 1930 in Little Saline, Texas down the road from London, Texas. She was the daughter of James and Lilly Mae Pearl DeSpain.
Edie was raised in the community of Little Saline, Texas by a loving and Christian family, her father a farmer and her mother a homemaker. Her grandfather, Louis Pearl was a Methodist preacher, and on the 27 day of October, 1946, he married Edie to her loving husband, Jesse Cravey of Streeter, Texas. Edie met Jesse just as he was about to embark on his journey to serve his country in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign of World War II, with the U.S. Army. Just days after his return, they were married and set off to start their own family in Galena, Park, just outside of Houston. They had four children Steven, Michael and Gary and Donna Cravey. One of Edie’s favorite things was bowling, and she had many friends through the years because of it. For more than fifty years she enjoyed her bowling, never missing a single year of league bowling until her death. In just a few months after the discovery of pancreatic cancer she went to meet the Lord, and to meet Jesse. She died in the place that she wanted to, in her home of Burnet, Texas that she shared with Jesse.
Edie is survived by her children Steven Ray Cravey of Kazakstan, Michael Dane Cravey of Spring, Texas, Gary Wayne Cravey of Houston, Texas and Donna Jean Cravey Palmer of Burnet, Texas, three brothers Wayne DeSpain of Tarpley, Texas, Louis DeSpain of Bastrop, Texas and Johnny DeSpain, of Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Elmer Cravey on April 19, 2000, mother and father and two sisters Merle and Ruth.
