Emma’s 5 year old brother had died 10 years earlier in 1918, the Spanish flu epidemic.
Her parents adopted a little girl named Alta 6 years before Emma’s birth thinking they would never be able to have another child. Emma’s parents were survivors.
They moved from Arkansas to Idaho with one of her father’s brothers and many other family members from both sides to find work anywhere they could. They picked apples, they were cooks, carpenters, sharecroppers, hay farmers and many other titles.
They moved back to Arkansas in 1936 when Emma was 8 y/o after the drought and the depression were over. Emma’s father was a farmer/rancher for the rest of his life.
Emma developed an infection of the heart lining when she was 14 and finished the rest of her schooling from a hospital bed.
She also completed a correspondence art course, nursing school as well as modeling school, all of which took second place to being a wife and mother.
She spent 57 years with the same partner; sharing his life and making a home. Giving her love freely to her children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a happy woman that lived a simple life and loved unselfishly.
She died calmly on a rainy Saturday morning Dec 28, 2024 after a long and blessed life at the age of 96 years and 7 months to the day.
