Now we lay her down to sleep
We pray the Lord her soul to keep.
Since she had died before she woke,
We pray the Lord her soul to tote.
Geneva Sue Hunter Lynch McClellan was born December 19, 1931 to Henry and Maudie Lee Hunter in Duke, Oklahoma.
As a child who grew up during the Depression, Geneva learned the meaning of hard work picking cotton at a young age. At the age of 15, she met and married C.L. Lynch, a soldier returning from the war. Having 4 children within a 5 year span, C.L. and Geneva struggled to raise a family, but over the years, her keen eye towards real estate opportunities allowed them to gradually break out of poverty and eventually to enjoy the fruits of their hard work.
At the age of 39, Geneva completed her GED and a course in nursing, out-performing younger students half her age. Geneva and C.L. enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri, where C.L. died during a vacation in 1989. Geneva cared for her 2 disabled sons, Mike and Tommy, until their deaths.
Late in life, Geneva met her soul-mate, Howard McClellan, with whom she enjoyed 9 years of happiness until his death in 2009, at the age of 94.
Never afraid of a challenge, Geneva entered and won the Ms. Senior Texas Classic Pageant, aweing everyone with a humorous musical sketch of Loretta Lynn.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, C.L. and Howard, 2 sons Tommy Lynch and Michael Lynch, and 2 grandchildren Tommy Lynch, Jr., and Regina Lynch.
She is survived by her daughter Vicki Vaughn (Steve) and son Wayne Lynch (Maggie), 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
Graveside service will be October 16, 2020, at 3:00 pm at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
Arrangements by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas.
