She was preceded in death by both her parents, one son Larry James Mata, brothers Felix Escamilla, Johnny Escamilla, Andrew Escamilla and Esperanza Escamilla; sisters Dominga Maldonado, Emelia Escamilla and Katy Valdez.
Our mom met no strangers. Everyone was always welcome in her home. She loved to feed you, drink coffee with you and show off her latest project she was working on. She had an abundant love for music, dancing and being silly with her friends and family. Jovita was very devout in her faith. She was a devoted mother, aunt, friend and confidant. She instilled us with a strong moral compass and manners. She was an excellent cook. If you came over to visit, often times you wouldn’t leave empty handed. She would always give. She loved to laugh and make jokes. Her greatest happiness was her grandchildren, who called her Grandma, GMA, Momo and Gigi.
She leaves behind 2 siblings Paul Escamilla and Nancy Pina, 7 children Susie (Joe) Guzman, Judy Baladez, Johnny (Bernadette) Mata, Kathy (Roy) Salazar, Donna (Rodney) Smith, Jason (Consuelo) Mata, and Stacy (Stephanie) Mata, 7 grandchildren Kara (Aaron) Dennis, Laura (Michael) Jordan, Leticia (Steven) Hernandez, Matthew Guzman, Rian Salazar, Abigail Salazar, and Isabella Mata and 1 great grandchild Lilian Hernandez. She helped raise 2 young men, who she loved as her own Paul Gonzales and Paul Raymond and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the New Century Hospice team Shannon, Patti, Clydie, Chaplain Lopez, Deborah, David and Julie. Thank you for guiding us through and caring for our mother.
