

Nita was born June 3, 1928, to Kama Graves and Burl Houston in Eastland County, Ranger, Texas. She was raised in Bryson, Texas with the help of her aunt Gracie and uncle Jap Cowan. Nita learned her amazing cooking skills from her mother Kama and her aunt Gracie. She worked alongside them in the kitchen learning their famous pie recipes.
Nita attended college at North Texas University in Denton, Texas from 1945-1949. She won many beauty competitions and was a sorority sister Zeta. She studied advertising and was a commercial art major. Nita taught school in Dallas, Graham, and San Antonio. She was married to Clyde Marley and had two beautiful children Linda and Eric Marley in San Antonio. She retired from teaching and enjoyed her life with Winston Hill in Arlington, Texas.
Nita was well known for her beautiful meals during the holidays and always had a gorgeous, decorated home. She was a talented oil painter and won numerous competitions. Her paintings hang on the walls of her loved ones and all over Texas.
Nita will be missed by her daughter Linda and her granddaughter Melonie. Her memories, traditions, recipes, style, and hard work live on in her family.
The graveside service for Nita will be held at 11am Monday, September 16, 2024, at Post Mountain cemetery in Burnet officiated by Minister Tim Denton.
