Doug was a proud veteran of the Army, and he also spent many years working in the tool and die industry, most recently for Autodie. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, fast cars, his many cats and dogs over the years, and a dark sense of humor. Most of all, he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Doug and Helen Bellgardt and his loving wife, Donna. Doug is survived by his son, Doug (Amanda) Bellgardt III; stepsons Greg (Mary) Chojnacki, and Brad (Kelly) Chojnacki; grandchildren Aiden Bellgardt, Max Bellgardt, Justin Chojnacki, Devon Chojnacki, Rachelle Chojnacki, Joshua Chojnacki, Kimberly Chojnacki; great-grandchildren; sisters Sandra (Dennis) Nelson and Mary (Tom) Engfer; and his nieces and nephews who love to share their many stories about “Uncle Doug” and “Grandpa Homie.”
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Legion POW/MIA Advocacy, as this was something Doug was passionate about; or to Corewell Health Hospice. The family welcomes memories and stories in their guest book online at www.cookcaresbyron.com
