Rev. Dr. H. David Schuringa was called home to his Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob David. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary (née Post); four children Greg (Sarah) Schuringa, Lisa (Joel) Bosma, Rebecca (Jeff) Helmus, and Tim (Liz) Schuringa. He was blessed with the love of 14 living grandchildren: Olivia (Isaac) Dykema; Hannah, Sophia, and Adrianna Schuringa; Seth, Natalie, Julia, and Sonia Bosma; Madelyn, Andrew, Sydney, and Meredith Helmus; Max and Owen Schuringa. He was expecting his first great-grandchild in December. He is also survived by his siblings Ruth (Marc) Leestma, Mary (Mike) Wolff, and Mark (Pam) Schuringa, as well as his father-in-law, Sidney Post, and many sisters- and brothers-in-law. David will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
David sought, with Mary, to follow God’s leading in his life, from the chicken ranch, to seminary, to pastoring in the Christian Reformed Church, to obtaining his doctorate in preaching in Kampen, the Netherlands, to teaching at the seminary and college levels, to planting a church, to leading a prison ministry, to writing, to enjoying God’s creation at Minkler Lake.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 at Cook Funeral Home (2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315), with visitation from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to service. In honor of David and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dutton Christian School, South Christian High School, or Central Wisconsin Christian School.
