Karyn Sue Honderd went to be with Jesus on June 12, 2025 at the age of 57. During Kary’s last day with us, she was surrounded by a constant parade of family, friends, and caregivers. She was dearly loved. Though Kary had struggled her entire life with the effects of Tuberous Sclerosis, her final days were very calm and peaceful.
Karyn was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Honderd; and niece, Isabelle Honderd. She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Carol Honderd; sister and brother-in-law, Kris and Eric Grimm; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Shelly Honderd; nieces and nephews Tyler (Kelly), Laura, Kelli (Trevor), Luke, Levi, Malachi, Emma, Ava, and Ezra.
We who loved Kary were so thankful that she could spend the last 14 years of her life at Harbor House. It was not only a blessing for Kary and her family to be part of such a caring community, but Kary was also a blessing to all those who cared for her and interacted with her. This “family” at Harbor House Ministries was a treasured part of Kary’s life. She loved the unending activities and outings with her friends there. She also truly appreciated the hours of Sesame Street they played for her enjoyment. Kary had a strong and funny personality, capable of keeping life very interesting for those around her.
Kary may not have had a large vocabulary with which to communicate, but she still always made her thoughts known. Her strong personality was always evident. Kary was clear about the things she loved and was vocal about the things she did not, and she was extremely loyal. Kary's favorite things, her favorite shows, favorite foods, favorite games, and favorite jokes, were her favorites for life. Those who came in contact with Kary learned to love her quirky personality and her simple faith. Kary could be counted on to add a definite “Amen” whenever she heard “for Jesus’s sake,” or if she felt the prayer was going on a bit too long.
God, in His greatness, is able to use each of us. Though Kary had some limitations, she was still capable of reflecting God’s love and displaying both patience and unconditional love for others. Karyn endured many physical challenges her entire life, especially seizure activity, but it never broke her spirit. We who loved her were often troubled, but Kary was resilient. God promises that all things can work towards some good, and we know this to be true as we have experienced the good God worked in and through Kary’s life. Kary was a blessing. Through knowing her, we were able to see her as God sees and loves her. Within that enlightenment, we learned how to love and value all of God’s children. We believe that God sorrows with us in personal tragedies, and we have felt His comfort and peace as we remember Kary.
In thankfulness for Karyn’s excellent care, memorial gifts may be made in Karyn’s name to Harbor House Ministries, www.harborhouseministries.org. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guestbook online.
