Robert (Bob) J. Bos, age 81 of Wayland, Michigan, entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 28, 2026. He was born and raised in Wyoming, Michigan. He married the love of his life, Joan, in 1968, and they settled in Byron Center, where he was the successful business owner of Lamberts Plumbing for over 30 years.
Bob was a member of the Army National Guard of Michigan from 1965-1971. In his younger years, he was well known and regarded in the men’s fast pitch softball world for his fast pitch prowess. He was a man’s man and a lover of all things outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he relished trips to Canada and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in search of walleye, pike, and smelt or the elusive buck. He enjoyed a good round of golf, spent years in a men’s bowling league, and was famous for his summer gardens of sweet corn, wax beans, and tomatoes.
Bob appreciated the simple things in life: weekly Saturday chicken dinners with friends at the old Byron Hotel, a couple of Pabst Blue Ribbons after a long day of work, or simply enjoying an evening watching the world go by from his beloved outdoor chair. A lifelong member of Woodhaven Reformed Church, Bob lived his life in accordance with his faith. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy who instilled the values of independence, responsibility, and a strong work ethic in his children.
He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Joan; and children Kari (Sean) Ferguson of Oak Ridge, New Jersey, Randy (Angela) Bos of Byron Center, Michigan, and Brian (Samantha) Bos of Wayland, Michigan; grandchildren Christian, Aidan, Ella, Claire, Caleb, and Ayva; and his brother, Dave Bos, of Wayland. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth; sister, Marilyn; and niece, Kris.
A celebration of life visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026 in the gym at Woodhaven Reformed Church, 3959 68th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. A private graveside service and interment will be held in Winchester Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be made to Woodhaven Reformed Church or Faith Hospice. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their online guestbook.
