On February 9, 1930, a little angel arrived in the world by the name of Ruben Mascorro. On January 14, 2022, Ruben left this world to join the angels and saints who preceded him in Heaven with Jesus. Now, if you knew Ruben, you may be questioning his angelic status. After all, Ruben was a prankster. He loved to tease. He had a bit of a mischievous side to him, but underneath it all he was one of the kindest, sweetest men in the world.
Ruben lived a simple life and enjoyed life's simple pleasures - things like daily walks, working in his amazing vegetable garden, watching a Cubs game on TV, or enjoying a good meal. But, at the core of his being, Ruben was a family man. Of all the things that brought him joy, nothing came close to the joy he experienced with his family. Ruben is survived by his beloved bride of 66 years, Sofia; son, Rudy (Nancee) Mascorro; daughter, Rose (Nick) Twomey; grandchildren Katrina (Andrew) Holt, Jennifer (Steve) Smit, Nick (Kalli) Mascorro, Stephen (Jane) Twomey, Kristen Twomey (Wesley Worden); and 13 great-grandchildren - each one, the love of his life.
Known affectionately by his grandchildren as Aha (a name earned by his distinct laugh), Ruben simply made the world a better place for all who knew him. Humble, self-effacing, generous and fun, Ruben lived his life with two driving forces: faith and family. Many years ago, Ruben surrendered his life to Jesus - a decision that radically changed not only his life, but four subsequent generations. Having received the unconditional love and forgiveness of Jesus, Ruben was able to share this love with his family, friends and all who were privileged to know him.
Though there are many verses from the Bible that shaped Ruben's faith, the one that stood out are these words from the apostle Paul, "For me to live is Christ, but to die is gain." Phil. 1:21
Pops, Aha, thank you for being the patriarch of our family and living a legacy of love that we pledge to continue. We miss you, we love you and we can't wait for the grand reunion yet to come.
