Scott Charles McKee, age 54 of Byron Center, Michigan, passed away far too soon on May 28, 2025, following a sudden stroke with a hemorrhagic transformation. In his final days, Scott was surrounded by his devoted family who held his hands, shared their love, and filled the room with memories.
Scott was born January 31, 1971, in Brooklyn, Ohio, to Charles James McKee and Kimberly June Brakeman. From an early age, his mix of sharp intelligence, quick wit, and a little mischief hinted at the man he would become. After graduating from Brooklyn High School, Scott proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he learned discipline, resilience, and a commitment to service that would guide the rest of his life.
When his time in the Navy came to a close, Scott pursued higher education with the same determination he brought to everything. He earned degrees in criminal justice from The Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati before embarking on his dream career as a special agent with the FBI. Over 25 years, he served with courage, integrity, and distinction, eventually earning another degree in cybersecurity. His years in military and law enforcement not only shaped his professional excellence but also gave him friendships that became family.
After retiring from government service, Scott embraced a new chapter as Steelcase’s Chief Information Security Officer, diving into fresh passions like flying drones, exploring finance and investments, and perfecting the art of smoking meats. True to his nature, he didn’t just dabble—he mastered.
Scott had a deep love for life’s joys, both big and small. He will be remembered for his big laugh, his perfectly timed practical jokes, his devotion to 80s hair bands, and his love of hockey. He had a remarkable ability to lead, to inspire, and to protect those for whom he cared. Above all, he was a strong, steady, and loving husband, a proud and devoted father, and a loyal friend. He lived fully, loved fiercely, and left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him.
Scott leaves behind his beloved wife of 26 years, Linda Lee McKee, his greatest teammate and love of his life; and their two children Brooke Elizabeth Herman (Stuart Herman) and Braxton Cade McKee, who were his proudest accomplishments. Also grieving his loss is his loyal boxer and constant companion, Gunner. He is survived by his parents Charles James McKee and Kimberly June Tanger (Thomas Tanger); siblings Jason McKee and Melissa McKee; and nieces and nephews Danica and Colton McKee and Kolby Garrison.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held 12 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Bella Giornata, 1835 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315. Friends and family are invited to share stories, laughter, music, and memories in honor of a life lived with courage, heart, and unforgettable spirit. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guestbook online.
