

William “Bill” Chester Greer, age 89, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Helen Greer; stepmother, Evelyn Greer; brother, Kenneth Greer; and grandson, Travis William Greer. He will be remembered by his loving wife of 66 years, Carmel (Sirianni) Greer; children David (Dawn Jones) Greer, Linda (Douglas) Smith, and Susan (Stephen) Wojton; grandchildren Michael and Caitlin Smith, Emily and Elizabeth Greer, and Samuel and Victoria Smith; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Marie Smith; sister, Patricia (Greer) Misner; sister-in-law, Rene (Goode) Greer; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bill was born in Williamstown, Missouri October 30, 1935, and moved to Muskegon, Michigan where he spent his childhood and graduated from Muskegon High School in 1954. After graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1954-1956.
Bill and Carmel were married in Muskegon, Michigan in 1959 and Bill worked at Plumb’s Supermarket as an assistant manager. He went to work for the R.L. Mitchell food brokerage company in 1963 and in 1979 he and two partners purchased the brokerage firm. He retired in February 1995 and he and Carmel began spending their winters in Florida.
Bill was an avid golfer where, on three different occasions, he shot a hole-in-one. Bill spent many years as a member of the University of Michigan Victors Club, and he loved watching U of M Football whether in person or on television.
A private family celebration of Bill’s life will commence at a date and time to be determined. In honor of Bill and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice (faithhospicecare.org) or Muscular Dystrophy Association (mda.org).
