It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ana Adelina Medeiros on January 6th, 2022, in her 93rd year. She left us peacefully with her family by her side and is now reunited with her husband of 57 years, Manuel. She is deeply loved and cherished by her two daughters: Maria (Keith) Sundercock and Lina (Scott) Mills. She is survived by her granddaughters: Michelle (Toby) Hill, Jackie (Greg) Stanley, Angelina (Darren) Michlik, and Megan (Geoff) Bent. She was also the beloved Vavo of seven great grandchildren whom she absolutely adored: Abigail, Madeline, Makayla, Ian, James, Jax, and Kylie. Ana is predeceased by her parents as well as by her four siblings and their spouses. She will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, God children, and many special friends.
Ana and Manuel left the little town of Cedros on the beautiful island of Faial in 1957. With two suitcases, a toddler, and a baby, the two began their journey to Canada in hopes of creating a better life for their family. The journey was long and filled with hard work, but the life they created here was truly a wonderful one.
Ana was devoted to her faith and never missed the opportunity to share her love of God and prayer. Her Portuguese heritage remained a large part of her life. She loved spending time at her home in Florida, travelling, playing euchre, and a good ol’ bus trip to the casino. Most importantly, her ultimate joy came from her family. All she ever wanted or needed was to spend time with them and have them close. Ana was a true family matriarch and loved all of her “kids” as she called them, unconditionally. Our lives are enriched and better as a result of knowing and loving Ana, and the memories we hold of her will forever be held close to our hearts.
Ana’s family would like to send a huge thank you to everyone that loved and supported her throughout her journey of life, especially Lina Szakaly. Friends and family will be received at T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Cambridge (519-623-1290) on Thursday, January 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The parish rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8:30 pm. Due to the current restrictions, anyone wishing to attend visitation will need to visit https://signup.com/go/yvJvrkU to register in advance as space will be limited. Masks will be required and social distancing observed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 14th at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 210 South Street Cambridge, followed by Interment at Parklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Ana’s family would greatly appreciate donations to the Lisaard and Innisfree Hospice.
