Anne was the ultimate matriarch—a woman of incredible grace, wisdom, and quiet power who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Born in Scotland, she possessed a fierce, independent spirit that led her across the Atlantic to Canada in 1964, alongside her first husband, Tommy, and their children, driven by a desire to create a wonderful life for those she loved. She brought that trademark Scottish determination to everything she touched. For decades, her life was defined by her nurturing soul, as she dedicated herself to looking after others and poured endless love, patience, and warmth into raising her children.
She had a profound respect for a strong work ethic and made sure to instill that value in the next generation. By bringing her grandchildren along to work beside her and Grandpa Bill, she turned ordinary days into valuable lessons about the dignity of hard work and the pride of earning your own way. She showed us all how to stand tall, be proud of who we are, and fiercely protect one another.
Above all else, Anne lived for her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. Nothing made her happier than having a full house, filling Nanny’s home with laughter, love, and the comforting aroma of her famous soup and steak tails.
Anne leaves behind her devoted children, Anne (Don), David, and Scott. She was the treasured Nanny of Carrie, Kristen, Sara, Heather, Alycia, and Matthew, and the deeply loved great-Nanny of Blake, Brady, Mason, Nash, Jared, Riley, and Charlotte. She will be fondly remembered by her surviving siblings, Margaret, Thomas, and Stewart, and is now peacefully reunited with her beloved husband, Bill, as well as her late brothers and sister, Sam, Robert, and Helen.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Anne's beautiful life at a memorial visitation on Tuesday, November 10th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home in Cambridge.
While Nanny is no longer here to hold our hands, the incredible foundation of love she built will guide our family forever. She will be missed beyond measure, but her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply.
