Born December 6th, 1928 on Bell Island, Newfoundland, passed quietly and with dignity at Cambridge Memorial Hospital with his family at his side on February 18, 2015. Dad was just a boy of 12 when he left school to raise his 2 younger brothers. Taking a job working in the mines of Bell Island shortly after the death of his parents Herbert and Laura Blackmore. So by the time he had met and married Edna Rose in 1955 he had already learned much about commitment and responsibility. They raised 3 children together, Karen (John) Good, Art and Ron Blackmore. In 1965 Dad left the island he loved to make a new life for his family in Ontario. In 2011 after 56 years together Edna passed away sadly leaving Art broken hearted. He leaves behind his loving children, granddaughter Heather (Sean Penhale) Masson, 4 beautiful great grandchildren; Eden and Hunter Westlake and Mya and Graham Penhale, his grandson in law Jake Westlake, Sisters in law Mina and Ceil Blackmore and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Tara Westlake in 2014 and his son in law Graham Masson in 1991, and all of his siblings. Dad was the last of his immediate family; Roger (Bess) Albert, William (Anne), Walter (Beul) Raymond, Evelyn (Bert), Stella (John), Daphne (Stewart) and Una (Harold). Dad was a kind, gentle man A hard worker and a good provider. He loved his family. We will always love you Dad and Poppa Pork Chop as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren. You have given us many wonderful memories and in the end memories are all that truly matter. To honour Dad’s wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
