Obituary- Betty Jean Dunn (Elvin) was freed from the confines of Alzheimer’s disease on October 2, 2026. Betty left this world having obtained the award for best mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to ever exist. We’re biased of course but facts are facts. Everyone that knew her loved her for her kind and loving spirit.
Betty was born on June 1st 1943 to Bessie and Morley Elvin in Galt where she lived her entire life. She grew up with the love of her parents and older sister Evelyn Elvin (pre-deceased through a car accident at the age of 36). This love is how she became the kind and loving person we all knew and loved.
Betty lead with her heart and was happiest when with her family. She was blessed with two daughters Kelly Anne Tryon (husband of 40+ years Bill) and Denyse Audrey Hodge-Darke (husband of 25+ years Mike), 4 grand children, Amanda (Jason) Vanderharst, Craig (Steph) Tryon, Kassandra (Lucas) Spalla and Jocelyn (Matt) Darke-Taylor and 5 great grandchildren Josh and Nathan Vanderharst, Dawson Tryon, Ayla and Eleana Spalla.
She lived a full life as a lifelong learner, an incredible dancer, tennis player, bowler and a member of the social committee at Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) where she worked for 42 years. She also loved to travel, which she did with friends and her daughters.
In her role as the best mother ever she imparted many lessons throughout our young lives, always with kindness, and was the best sounding board as we grew. In her last years with Alzheimer’s (which she battled for over 20 years) she continued to teach us many lessons - patience and compassion to mention a few. She loved puzzles, Facebook and candy crush, even had her own computer which she spent hours enjoying playing candy crush. She could “crush” us with no problem. Even when she was no longer able to speak, she could communicate with facial expressions and her beautiful blue eyes and we knew what she meant.
Mom, your work here is done and we hope you rest now in peace and enjoy the reunion with your mom, dad and sister.
Special thanks to the amazing team at Stirling Heights Long Term Care, Gerda Weins and the Stirling community for their care, love and support over the past 8.5 years.
Betty’s life will be celebrated on Monday, October 5th at T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street. Visitation will take place from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., and a service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m.
