With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a truly amazing man David William Gibbons (Dave), on Sunday, September 13th, 2026, in his 84th year. Dave passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
He is now reunited with his beloved son, David Jr. (2020).
Dave was the beloved husband of Carol, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. He was a loving father to Brenda Clark (Darryl) and Billie-Anne Arthur (Gary), and bonus father to Theresa MacDougall.
He was a proud Poppa to Zachary (Melissa), Sarah (Eric), Cody, Michelle, and Keith, and bonus Poppa to Nicole (Morgan) and Amanda (Aidann).
He was a cherished Poppa-Poppa to Ruby, the apple of his eye, and bonus Poppa-Poppa to Alex.
Dave will be dearly missed by his brother John (Marilyn) Gibbons, brother-in-law Ken Porteous, and bonus siblings Margaret Shouldice, Doreen (Bill) McRobb, Rosalie (Ron) Davies, and Gwen (John) Dias.
He was predeceased by his parents, Horace and Lily, and his siblings George (Shirley) and Lois Porteous, Wayne Shouldice, and John Wilson.
He will be forever remembered by his extended family and many friends.
He was a man who gave so much of himself to others. Generous with his time, his kindness, and his love, he had a way of making people feel cared for, valued, and never alone. He gave without expecting anything in return and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all else, Dave cherished his family. They were the center of his world and the greatest source of his pride and joy. He loved deeply, protected fiercely, and supported unconditionally. His family will forever carry the lessons he taught them, the memories they shared, and the immense love he gave so freely.
He will be remembered for his strength, compassion, generosity, and the countless ways he made life better for those around him. Though his absence leaves an indescribable emptiness, his love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
His legacy is not measured by what he had, but by what he gave: his time, his heart, his wisdom, and his unwavering love.
He was truly one of a kind, and he will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
Relatives and friends will be received at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrew Street, Cambridge, on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
