Doug definitely made the most of his retirement after his many years at Royce Carbide. Doug enjoyed volunteer teaching judo at the Cambridge YMCA for 50 years, canoeing, hiking, swimming, photography, skiing, and playing cards with his many friends. He was a lifetime rock and mineral collector who especially loved his weekly visits to the thrift stores searching for interesting treasures and deals.
Doug was a happy husband to Grace Roblin and loving father to Alixandria Maffin (Josh Pirie) and stepson Steve Roblin (Kasey Livingston). He loved his grandchildren; Hunter, Charlie, Elsie and new baby boy Roblin.
He was a wonderful and supportive brother to both Jack Maffin (Debi Campbell) and Janice Lee.
So many will miss his quiet demeanor, helpful attitude, and the wit he always had even right to the end. Doug was blessed with a caring family and many life-long friendships.
The family would like to thank the amazing team of staff and volunteers at Lisaard House Hospice for their exceptional support and caring.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life reception will be at Napa Grille, Cambridge, Thursday April 26 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the Lisaard House or The Grand Valley Trails Association.
As Doug bid a sad goodbye on April 10th to a full and wonderful life of 70 years, he wanted us to relay… "Happy trails to you all!"
