Doug was born in Timmins on June 14, 1927. He moved to Galt in 1964 but he was very proud to call Timmins his home.
Doug was very athletic. As a teenager he belonged to the Boxing Club, played on the hockey, football and tennis teams. He loved the outdoors and fishing. In his adult years he won many awards and trophies for darts, bowling and golf. His greatest achievement in golf was his hole in one, and scoring his age at the age of 78.
Doug’s career began as a First-Class machinist in the Hollinger and Dome mines in Timmins. When he moved to Galt, he became a Tool and dye maker. He retired from Long Manufacturing after 22 years of service.
Doug was very talented and in his later years became an artist. He loved to paint birds and landscapes but his favourite subject was an abstract. He enjoyed the fact that once he began, he never knew how it was going to finish. He was very proud of his works and enjoyed sharing them with friends and family
Doug will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and most of all his incredible sense of humour and wit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Sidelines Sports Bar and Grill (991 King Street East, Cambridge) from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
