

Edward "Ted" William Bateman was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Edward "Ted" will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Edward "Ted" was born on August 11, 1949 at Old Galt Hospital in Cambridge (Galt), Ontario. He was the son of Bramwell Sr. Bateman and Sally Hyndman. Edward "Ted" grew up in Galt, Ontario.
Edward "Ted" was raised with 4 Brothers and 2 Sisters. Melvin, Bramwell Jr., Robert and Douglas and Mabel and Sally. Edward "Ted" was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Edward "Ted" had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. He was a Cub and Scout. In his spare time he liked music and comics. Edward "Ted"'s memorable achievements included. However, to Edward "Ted", the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Edward "Ted" had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Glenview Park in 1968. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. His favorite class in high school was History.
Edward "Ted" enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Edward "Ted" was able to manage the balancing act. Attended college out west. He also pursued graduate school, earning his Third Class Engineer. His favorite course was engineering.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Edward "Ted" enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were Paul Miller and Bruce Walker. Later in life, he became friends with Greg.
Fortunately, Edward "Ted" enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Edward "Ted" worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was Engineer. He was employed for 27 yrs with Guelph General Hospital. Edward "Ted" always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Edward "Ted" was in the Navy. He was in the Navy stationed in Halifax, N. S. Edward "Ted" saw action for. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Edward "Ted" enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were singing and playing the guitar. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Edward "Ted" found pleasure in sports. In high school, Edward "Ted" played. In his college years, Edward "Ted" continued to stay active by. Edward "Ted" was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list was hockey.
Edward "Ted"’s faith was important to him. During that time, he was in CYC.
Edward "Ted" enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included trips to Dominican Republic.
Edward "Ted" was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was a poodle. They were best friends for 10 years.
When Edward "Ted"’s retirement finally arrived in 2010, he was well prepared. Even in retirement, Edward "Ted" continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Edward "Ted" was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Edward "Ted" passed away on April 30, 2016 at At home in Cambridge Preston, Ontario. MDS Leukimia for 2and 1/2 years. He is survived by his Mother Sally Hyndman, sisters Mabel Shea and Sally Main and brothers Bram Jr. and Melvin. Services were held at Coutts Funeral Home Chapel. Edward "Ted" was laid to rest in Mount View Cemetery.
Simply stated, Edward "Ted" was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Edward "Ted" leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Edward "Ted" William Bateman.

Passed away at his residence on Saturday April 30, 2016 in his 67th year. Step-father of Paul (Michelle), and Shelly. Also survived by his mother Sally Mae Hyndman and his late step-father Keith Hyndman, his brothers Melvin and Bramwell Jr., sisters Mabel Shea, and Sally Main. Predeceased by his father Bramwell Bateman and 2 brothers Robert and Douglas. Also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces and nephews. Ted was born in Galt on August 11, 1949 and lived in Cambridge most of his life, and was retired from Guelph General Hospital. The family will receive friends at Coutts Funeral Home 96 St. Andrews St. Cambridge Saturday May 7, 2016 from 1 P.M. until service time at 2 P.M. Cremation to follow.
