It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Elizabeth Young (née Myers), on Friday, August 28th, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Elizabeth was the cherished wife of the late James William Young, with whom she shared many years of love and family memories. In her later years, she was blessed to have Hugh Mason by her side. Hugh was a devoted partner who remained a constant presence in Mom’s life, especially throughout her years in long-term care. We are grateful for the kindness and care he gave her.
Elizabeth will be deeply missed by her loving daughters Geraldine Young, Darlene Holtzhauer (Brad), and Colleen Young, who will forever carry their mother’s love in their hearts.
She was a devoted grandmother to Shane Gobran, Jordan Comegna, Nathan Holtzhauer and Evan Holtzhauer. Her family was her greatest joy, and the memories they shared with her will be treasured forever.
She leaves behind her loving siblings Sheila (George) Basha, Kevin (Lorraine), Mary (John) Murphy, Angela McNamara, Theresa Wylie (Rick Faulkner), Robert (Margaret), and Christine (Dino) Marrocco, as well as her sisters-in-laws Carol Myers, Joanne Myers, Susan Cooke, Marilyn Myers, Donna Myers, Christine Martin, Patricia Young, Jean Bursey (Jack), Marilyn Cummings (Paul), Lorraine Kavanagh (Joe), Diane Morgan (Art), and Geraldine Skanes (Geoff).
She will also be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Although Alzheimer’s slowly took away so much of the woman we knew, it could never take away the love she gave or the memories she created. We will always remember Mom for who she truly was—not for the disease that took so much from her, but for the loving mother, grandmother, sister, partner and friend she was.
We find comfort knowing that Mom is finally at peace, free from the struggles of Alzheimer’s and reunited with Dad.
Mom, you were loved more than words could ever express. We will miss you every day. Your voice, your smile, your stories and the love you gave us will remain with us forever. Thank you for being our mom and for giving us a lifetime of memories.
Rest peacefully, Mom. You fought a long and difficult battle, and now you can finally rest. We love you, we miss you, and you will forever live on in our hearts.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
Relatives and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge from 6 -9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Parish, 53 Wellington Street, Cambridge at 11 a.m. Elizabeth will be laid to rest alongside her husband, James at Parklawn Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations made in Elizabeth's memory to the Alzheimer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
