Beloved wife and soulmate for 58 years to Rudolf “Rudy” Meyer. Loving mother of Thomas Meyer of Penetanguishene, Ontario and Christine Jonker (Mark) of Cambridge, Ontario. Proud Omi to Cassondra Jonker and Lucas Jonker. Gerda was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Martha Schild and her sister Irene Arp.
Gerda was born in Berlin, Germany, moved to England in 1953 and immigrated to Canada in 1959. She met Rudy in 1961 in Toronto and they were married that same year. They moved to Dundalk, Ontario with their children in 1971 to run a business, from there to North Bay, Ontario in 1988, and to St. George, Ontario in 2015.
Gerda enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. She was a very spiritual person who started practicing meditation and yoga in the late 1960’s. She was a member of Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.), which explored the areas of philosophy, holistic health, personal spirituality, dream interpretation, and reincarnation. Gerda loved to travel, and did so extensively with her husband throughout Europe and North America, as well as many other places in the world. Their world cruise with the Queen Mary in 2011, was the highlight of their travels. She also enjoyed living in Florida during the winter months for many years.
Her number one priority was always her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved them all unconditionally. Being an Omi to her two grandchildren gave her special joy, and she always tried to pass on her wisdom to them.
