With deepest sorrow, the family of Lauren Destun mourn her unexpected passing following a brave and courageous battle with Leukemia. She was mere months away from completing her treatment. To say this is an unfair and devastating loss is a monumental understatement. Lauren wanted to enjoy life with her family. One of her greatest joys was running barefoot in the rain with her brothers and her Mom. She was looking forward to continuing her love of cooking especially with bacon and cheese. Lauren had taken great time to consider what her Children’s Wish would be and was looking forward to a family trip to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. She had plans to travel around Ontario and out to Nova Scotia to visit family.
She enjoyed cheering on her favourite sports teams, The Leafs and the Jays with her Dad and brothers.
Lauren was a budding artist, and she dabbled in sketching and painting. She was proud of her siblings and loved them fiercely. She had a wonderful dry sense of humour which she kept until the end. Lauren aspired to finish her current high school year with honours. She achieved that status in her first semester at Southwood Secondary School.
Lauren was a longtime member of Girl Guides Canada, working her way up through Sparks, Brownies, Guides & Pathfinders. Lauren loved camping, dogs, cats and turtles. She enjoyed playing road hockey with the Stanley St. Gang.
Lauren, our girl of light, with her old soul, will be greatly and forever missed by her parents Mike and Karen, her sister Sarah (Mike) and brothers Theo and Zach. Lauren loved her God Parents Peggy and Tad Dreyer. Theirs was like a second home to her and she loved to stay with them.
In Nova Scotia Lauren will be missed by many family members. Her Grandmother Mary Upham, Aunt Linda and Uncle Barry, cousins Sean, Mary, Michael and Barry, her Aunt Mary Jane, cousins Amanda, Sarah and David, Aunt Heather and Uncle Russ, and cousins Danielle, Chloe and Ben.
In Ontario Lauren will be missed by many family members. Her Grandparents, Fred and Diane Polesky, Auntie Allison and Uncle Rik, cousins Ryley, Megan, Emersyn, Jordynn, Aunt Kim and Uncle Jason, cousins Mitchel and Erin, Uncle Kyle and Aunt Teri, cousin Novak, and Uncle Stephan.
Lauren was loved and will be missed by countless other extended family, and many close and dear friends. Her equally brave and courageous Go Gold Cambridge Family was near and dear to her heart and they will miss her beyond words.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home and once again on Monday, April, 30, 2018 from 1-2 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel.
Lauren’s favourite colour was blue, please feel free to shine in blue or other bright colours when you come to honour her memory. Leafs or Jays jerseys welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to RBC transit 07482 account 5132428. Monies donated will be sent to McMaster Oncology or Childhood Cancer Canada.
