OBITUARY

Lorna Ruth Ellis

11 September, 1937 – 22 August, 2025
IN THE CARE OF

T. Little Funeral Home & Cremation Centre

Passed away peacefully at Stirling Heights Nursing Home on Friday, August 22, 2025 in her 88th year.

Beloved wife for 50 years of the late Albert Ellis, who predeceased her in December of 2008. Loving mother of Lori Bennett (David), Wayne Ellis (Melissa Brandsma), and Kevin Ellis (Jacquie Schmidt). Cherished grandmother to Carleen Reade (Dennis), Andrew Bennett, Graeme Ellis, and Jillian Bennett (Trevor Lewis). Proud great-grandmother to Wyatt and Josephine Reade. Dear elder sister to Helen Dunnill and Joyce Hunter (Ray).

Lorna was born and raised on the family farm near Sheffield, Ontario. She began her working life at Scroggins Shoe Company and then Bell Telephone before marrying Albert in 1958. After dedicating several years to raising her family, she returned to work as a part-time cashier at Zehrs, where she remained until retirement. Later, she became fondly known in her community as the local “Avon Lady,” a role that allowed her to stay connected with family, friends, and neighbours.

A lifelong member of Sheffield United Church, an active participant in the Clyde & Scotts Women’s Institute, and a past volunteer at the CMH Cancer Clinic, Lorna was proud of her community ties. She loved the tranquil moments spent knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and tending her garden, but she also embraced the adventurous times spent camping and riding on the back of Albert’s motorcycle when he owned one.

Lorna faced her later years with courage, spending her final five years living with dementia at Stirling Heights Nursing Home. The family is grateful to the staff for their kindness and compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service and interment at Kirkwall Presbyterian Cemetery will follow at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Sheffield United Church or the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
