It is with great sadness that the family announces Mary Horvath’s passing in Cambridge, Ontario on Friday, September 4, 2026 at the age of 89. Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jim. She is survived daughters Mary (Nick), Helen (Michael) and Elizabeth (John); grandchildren Michael Nemeth (Lindsay), David Nemeth (Gillian), and Emily, Elaine and Stephen Sloan; great-grandchildren Maddy, Emmy, Jonathan, and Elizabeth. Mary will be missed by extended family Amber, Dennis, Mike, Amanda and their families. Also survived by her brothers Joe and Andy, brother-in-law Les, sister-in-law Joan, as well as other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Mary was born on March 25, 1937 in Rockford, Saskatchewan to Michael and Magdalen Seman. Mary met and then married the love of her life Jim on October 22, 1955. They lived together happily until Jim’s death on October 2017, only two days short of their 62nd wedding anniversary. Together they built, owned and operated; The Matador Lounge and Steakhouse, Horvath Sand and Gravel, and then went on to design, build and operate the Grand Valley Golf and Country Club. With hard work and dedication, they worked together and side-by-side to exceed their goals and have many accomplishments. Mary loved to travel and spent many years in Florida, enjoying golfing with her friends. She immensely loved spending time with her family. Her family was always foremost and closest to her heart. Mary was an excellent cook, and her cooking will be passed on through the recipes shared with her grandchildren. She had a knack for making people feel welcome and included, no one was as kind and thoughtful as she was. She is a model and inspiration for living your life with kindness, and always thought of other before herself.
Visitation will take place at the T. Little Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 223 Main Street, Cambridge (519-623-1290) on Wednesday, September 9th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, 210 South Street, Cambridge on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mount View Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the St. Ambrose Church, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by his family. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital and the WRHN Cancer Care for their efforts, care and dedication.
