It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Michael David Korchensky of Galt, Ontario, who passed away on February 12, 2026, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in his 57th year. Mike had been battling numerous health issues over the last several years. Although we will never truly be ready to let him go, we find comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering.
This was not Mike’s first time knocking at death’s door. Life tested him more than once, and each time, he fought his way back.
Mike passed peacefully with the comfort of his sister Diane, at his side, with his daughter, Ambur and partner Daphne close behind.
He will be deeply missed by his sister Diane Down (Michael), his step-sister Samantha McNeil (Bruce Squire), his partner Daphne Fayle, and their daughter Ambur Wilkinson. Beloved son of Patricia and Daniel Cole and Ralph Korchensky (Darlene). Proud uncle to Christian, Aidan, Mikhaila, and Zoe and Great Uncle to Faith, Keegan, Kayden and Khloe. Extended family to Christine Vander Heyden, Jaime, Jessica, and Jay Hogle.
Mike grew up in Galt and attended Southwood Secondary School. Mike made friends wherever he went, with many becoming lifelong friends. One of his longest friendships was with Darryl Peach, who was more of a brother than a friend. Mike excelled in hockey (warming the bench in the penalty box), along with other childhood interests such as music and riding his bicycle and, later, his motorcycle.
At just 15 years old, with $100 in his pocket and a fearless spirit, Mike hitchhiked out west, where he spent a year discovering the world on his own terms. Mike worked as a roadie for Shades of Black in his early teens and truly found his rhythm in music.
In his thirties, Mike once again hit the open road to the west, but this time on the back of his beloved Harley.
Mike became a welder for many years, a trade that reflected both his strength and creativity.
Mike was a deeply creative soul who loved putting words to paper and cranking up just about any kind of music. He cherished his brothers, had a knack for capturing life through a camera lens, and understood people in a way not everyone does. He lived life in the fast lane - sometimes the faster lane - but he also knew when to slow down and truly take in the moment when it mattered most.
Kind by nature but tough by instinct, Mike was sharp-witted, fiercely loyal, and carried a quiet strength that never needed announcing. Anyone who knew him knew he had a heart built bigger than the road ahead - in love, in spirit, and in strength. That same powerful heart, grown too big for this world, stopped suddenly and carried him on to his next ride, leaving behind a lifetime of stories and a long trail of people who loved him.
Visitations will be held at Coutts Funeral Home on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Bike Run and Celebration of Life will be held in May; details to come.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a cause that was most meaningful to your relationship with Mike.
