Michael John Riddle

He will be forever missed but his memory and legacy will live on in our hearts.

Michael John Riddle was born in Plymouth, England on January 04, 1944. He married Jean Trout on April 01, 1967. After graduating as a pharmacist, Mike and Jean came to Canada to start a new life with $200 in their pockets! They eventually settled in Newtonville, Ontario where they had four children: Lee, Michelle (Tripho), Tamara (Eric) and Jacqueline (Jeremy).

Michael was a kind, sensitive and introverted man who didn’t say a lot but let those closest to him know how much they meant through his actions. Michael’s quiet generosity, strength, kindness, and sense of humour had a lasting impact on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Michael had many hobbies that he pursued to the fullest. His primary passion was soccer, which he played well into his 60’s. He attended several World Cup events and had great fun and many international exploits with his pals – Eddie, Frank and Juan. He was a lifelong Plymouth Argyle fan and an ardent Arsenal supporter and enjoyed watching all the premier soccer games each week. Michael also enjoyed woodworking and gardening, making many cherished pieces of furniture for his wife and children.

Michael and Jean missed the ocean and the beaches in Cornwall, England and so bought a piece of land in Pictou County, Nova Scotia around 1980. They slowly and lovingly shaped it into a beautiful cottage where Michael enjoyed planting beans and tomatoes and harvesting gooseberries and black currants. The cottage became an annual destination for his children and grandchildren (Alora, Davyn, Ben, Kassandra, Ella, Jack and Cooper). Eventually, his brother (Tony Riddle) came across the pond to spend summers at his own place in Nova Scotia, where they were able to enjoy precious time together.

Michael and Jean traveled the world together and experienced a love and a life known by few.
