Shirley Last

Beloved mother of Tim (Maureen) and Cynthia (Howard). Shirley was a proud and devoted grandmother to David, Karen, and Stephanie. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brother Robert (Jane) Dyer, as well as her many extended family members, friends, and former students.

Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband John Edward Last, with whom she shared more than fifty wonderful years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents, Norman and Hulda Dyer; her in-laws, Robert and Bernice Last; her brothers Norm Dyer (Ella) and Don Dyer; her sister and brother-in-law, Len and Betty Peace; Robert (Bernice) Last; and John (Marion) Maynard.

Music was Shirley’s lifelong passion and calling. A gifted child prodigy, she dedicated her life to sharing the joy of music with others. She enjoyed a distinguished career as a respected piano teacher, inspiring generations of students through her patience, kindness, and exceptional talent. Shirley accompanied ballet classes, served as an organist for local churches, was a proud member of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ORMTA), and worked as an examiner for the Ontario School of Music. Many of Shirley’s students remained in touch with her throughout the years – a testament the lasting impact she had. To her family, Shirley was simply the best piano teacher in Cambridge.

Shirley will be remembered always for her love and kindness. Her love of music enriched countless lives, and her legacy will continue to resonate through all those she inspired.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Shirley’s life on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026, at T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street. Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, followed by a funeral service in the chapel. A reception will take place at the funeral home immediately after the service, where refreshments will be served and memories of Shirley will be shared.
