Todd Garry Smith

We are devastated to announce the sudden passing of Todd Smith, devoted husband of 40+ years to Monica Smith, best dad ever to his daughters, Nicole (Marty) and Natalie Smith, and ultimate grandpaw to Georgie Girl and Trappy.

Todd is predeceased by his wife Monica Smith of Cambridge, his mother, Doreen Lankin of London, his best-boy grand-dog, Tiggy Duff of St. John’s, and several beloved relatives, in-laws, and friends. He is survived by his girls, his son-in-law and close friend, Marty Lachance, and a number of extended family members who will miss him dearly, including his favourite Aunt June (Bud) Henderson, his cousins, his adoring sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends—especially his Newfoundland home away from home, Berni Stapleton, and his best bud and work partner, Manny (Barb) Cabral.

Todd worked at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Company since its beginnings, both on the line and as a Team Leader, but most recently as a Team Member in the metals lab in North Weld. He devoted much of his time and energy to TMMC and worked hard his whole life to provide for his family. Anyone who knew Todd Smith knew a kind-hearted jokester who took everything for what it was, cared deeply, and showed up. He was a dedicated dad, with encyclopedic knowledge of oldies music, unparalleled handyman ability, endless faith in the Toronto Maple Leafs, an obsession with Christmas, reverence for the King (Elvis Presley), ridiculous puns, and an open-door policy in every regard. Todd had all the time in the world for anyone and everyone. He always knew what mattered.

Special thanks to nurses Tara, Sarah, and Denise – “the PICC-liners” – at CMH Medical Daycare for their humour and compassion during what we did not know would be the end of Todd’s life.

Cremation has taken place. Anyone who would like to celebrate Todd’s life is invited to join us at his and Monica’s on Saturday, September 12th, 2026 from 4pm onwards for a backyard bash. Please reach out to Nicole at 519-222-5043 for the address if necessary.
