Dorothy R. Sanford

Dorothy Sanford, 93, of Messiah Village, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017. Born September 5, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John S. Reben and the late Ethel (Peace) Reben. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugh S. Sanford for 54 years. Dorothy graduated from John Harris High School and the Central Penn Business School. She worked for the Navy Depot, the former Bell Telephone Co. and Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. She married Hugh on June 1, 1944. They raised three children, Thomas, Sandra and Barbara.

Dorothy was a 50+ year member of the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. She and Hugh volunteered at the Pine Street Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Central PA Hospice. She loved to travel with Hugh, touring the USA either in their motor home, or on a bus tour.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Hugh, her brother Jack and her grandson Scott.

Survivors are son, Thomas and wife Judith; daughters, Sandra Gribbin and husband, Joseph, and Barbara Lefko and husband John; and grandson Matthew Gribbin and wife Kristen.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, 300 East Simpson St., Mechanicsburg. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Rolling Green Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 12:30 PM Friday until the time of the service at the church.
