He was born April 3, 1937 in Wilburton, PA a son of the late Roy and Bardella (Sharp) Rupert.
John was a graduate of Conyngham-Centralia High School, class of 1955. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army. John served as a Pennsylvania State Police Officer and retired as a Corporal after 30 years of service.
John was a member of the Wilburton United Methodist Church, VFW Wilburton, the National Fraternal Order of Police and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and George Rupert and sisters; Florence Waldman, Dorothy Gross and Hannah Klischer.
Survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley (Moyer) Rupert of Mechanicsburg, sister Mary Ludik of Willow Grove, brother and sister-in-law; Arlene Rupert, New Brunswick, NJ, Rod Gross, Pacific Palisades, CA, Janet Croyle, Johnstown, OH, Bill and Shirley Moyer, Johnstown, PA, Chuck and Lois Moyer, Moneta, VA, Terry and Susan Moyer, Richmond, VA and Linda Younkin, Somerset, PA and many nieces and nephews.
John was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan and spent many retirement hours supporting his nephew’s baseball teams and attending their games. He was their biggest fan and he and Shirley easily became “grandparents” to the boys and their teammates. He never forgot where he came from and was very proud of his Wilburton roots. John never knew a stranger because he made a friend of everyone he met. He was loved by all and will be remembered by everyone by who was fortunate enough to be a part of his life.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday June 12, 2019 from 6-8 PM at the Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market, Camp Hill, PA.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 13, at 12:00 PM at the funeral home and a military service and interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17110, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in John’s memory.
