Born September 25, 1926, to the late Santiago and Francisca (Liceralde) Espino on Corregidor, Philippine Islands (at that time a US territory). He is survived by his sisters; Angelina Espino Searles of Sebring, Ohio, Erlinda Espino Pangaldan of Santa Cruz, Philippines, and Zenaida Espino Ostman MD, of Enola. He is preceded in death by his brothers; Anacleto Espino, Severino Espino, and Rodolfo Espino.
Pacifico served in the US Navy for over twenty years enlisting in 1946, in the submarine service as a ship’s electrician. After his retirement from the Navy he continued as an electrician for Global Associates on Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific, working there for almost twenty years. The island is part of the US Pacific missile test range.
Mr. Espino’s father, Santiago, was an Army employee on Corregidor and taken prisoner by the Japanese when the island fell at the beginning of World War II, he survived the Bataan Death March and several years in a Japanese POW camp, after the war he lived on to an age of 105. Pacifico’s sister, Angelina, was educated as a school teacher in the Philippines and emigrated to the US in 1948, she served as a elementary school teacher in Michigan and Ohio, starting in a one room schoolhouse, at age 104 she still gets around and plays tournament Bridge. His sister Erlinda served many years as a school math teacher in Santa Cruz, Philippines, she is retired and spends time with her son, a retired Navy Senior Chief and two daughters in the US, one a nurse and the other a computer engineer, she has two other daughters and another son, two home in the Philippines and another in Australia. His sister Zenaida, with whom he lived, has been a physician in the Central PA area for over 40 years. Mr. Espino financed the professional education of many of his nieces and nephews as well as supporting his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4th at 9:30am at the Neill Funeral Home; 3401 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011. A visitation will be held from 8:30am until the time of the service. Interment will be held at 11:30am at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery; Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17003.
