Brian was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on Dec 18, 1936, the oldest of three children. Before coming to Canada, Brian did a 5-year apprenticeship with Alexander Hall & Co. working at the Aberdeen shipyard. Later, he joined the Merchant Navy and became a Marine Engineer working for New Zealand Shipping Co. where he had fond memories travelling to New Zealand, Australia, and several European Countries.
In 1962, Brian immigrated to Canada and met his wife, Moira, and they were later married in 1965. A skilled Millwright, Brian worked with Ontario Hydro, Dominion Bridge and Sulzer, specializing in the installation of power turbines and generators across North America. He was known for his precision and was respected in his field.
Brian spent many years living and raising his family across different parts of Canada (Ontario, Alberta, Nova Scotia and finally B.C), never shy to take on another challenge or adventure.
He had a love for fixing and learning new things and later developed a passion for rebuilding and playing guitars. An avid sports fan, he’d get up early to watch his European Football and stay up late watching NHL hockey. He loved meeting new people and always kept his Scottish sense of humour. His pride and joy were his four grandsons.
Brian will be missed dearly and leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Moira, his three children: Andrew (Laura), Allison (Jim), and Michael, his four grandsons: Jacob, Lucas, Cameron and Owen, and his sister, Stella. He is predeceased by his mother Annie (Stepfather Bill) and brother Allan.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Discovery Harbour Care Centre for their loving and compassionate care over this past year to Brian.
As per Brian’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
