Our much-loved husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa, great grandpa/sweetie, David Harrison, passed away on August 31, 2026. David was born and raised in the Comox Valley, the son of Gladys (nee Bowen) and Roy Harrison. He met the love of his life, Kathleen Downey when they were in grade 4. They were married for 69 years.
Dave was an avid athlete, who spent many years playing and coaching basketball , playing baseball, and competing in track. Dave was a well-liked and highly respected teacher and administrator. He worked in Fort St John, Courtenay, Gibsons, Port McNeill, Invermere, Port Hardy, and Prince Rupert. Dave was a great conversationalist who could talk to anyone about anything, yet he was also known as someone who could say the most in the fewest words.
He and Kathleen enjoyed travelling and travelled to every continent except for Antarctica. Dave’s absolute favourite thing to do was spend time with his family. His eyes lit up whenever he spent time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Just one month ago Dave’s family gathered to celebrate his 90th birthday. We will be forever grateful that we had that time together to make more memories. Dave will be greatly missed by his wife, Kathleen, daughters June (Doug) and Jill (Raymond) and daughter in law, Cheryl, grandchildren Mike, Julie (Wes), Erik (Dani), Kale (Pauline), and Robyn (Jack), and great grandchildren Jackson, Scarlett, Lukas, Eliza, and Olivia, as well as brother in law, Sam, and nieces and nephews.
While we will miss Dave, dad, grandpa, and sweetie immensely we find comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved son, Jim.
“Don’t forget, somewhere between hello and goodbye there was love, so much love."
