We are sad to announce that Don passed away suddenly on February 26, 2013 at the age of 63 while vacationing with his wife in the Caribbean to celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary. Don is survived by his loving wife Barbara; his children Angela (Shawn), Raymond (Fontana), Monica (Jason); his granddaughter Shelby; his sister Dianne; Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and many friends. Don was predeceased by his parents Ruff and Rose. Don was born and raised in Burnaby, BC and graduated from Dental School at UBC in 1974 after seven strenuous years of university. During the summer months away from university he worked in Tofino as a powder packer and at Carlings Brewery as a lab tech. Upon graduation he decided to promptly leave the stress of the big city by moving to Ucluelet, BC where he opened the town’s first dental office and met the love of his life, Barbara. Don and Barb eventually moved to Campbell River in 1976 where they opened another dental office. They spent many years travelling to Port McNeill and Ucluelet providing dentistry to ensure adequate income for their family. Hard work and family were two of Dons biggest values. Don and Barb built their dream home on Ash Street in1985 where they raised their three children. At age 54, Don was forced to take an early retirement due to a health scare and was thankfully able to enjoy his last 9 years in retirement with Barb while participating in many outdoor activities that he loved. Family camping trips at Kennedy Lake and fishing at Telegraph Cove as well as Nootka Sound were always looked forward to yearly by Don. Working in his prized vegetable garden was a passion and a family tradition that his daughters will continue. Don was an avid member of the Campbell River gun club and enjoyed competing in IPSC shooting. He brought his shooting skills to the bush yearly by always making a point to be out for opening deer hunting day. Don also loved riding his Harley with Barb in the local poker and toy runs as well as driving his precious '66 Corvette on the occasional sunny day. He will be missed by many, but we can all feel confident in the fact that Don lived well until his last moment. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagles Hall on Sunday March 17th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (1-888-473-4636) or B.C. Children’s Hospital (1-888-663-3033) would be appreciated.
