Guy was born on September 29, 1953, in Kitchener, Ontario, to John (“Jack”) and Doris Wallace. In 1955, the family moved to Duncan, British Columbia, before relocating to Campbell River in 1956. In 1961, Guy proudly helped his family build their home in the Painter-Barclay subdivision, a place filled with many cherished memories.
Guy was predeceased by his parents, John (“Jack”) and Doris Wallace. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Valerie; his children, Stephanie, Jeffrey (Teresa), Kristina (Lee), and Brendan (Jessica); and his grandchildren, Ryen, Corey, Jack, Oliver, and Victoria. He is also survived by his sisters, Kay (Stan) Uzzell and Kim (Paul) Suurhoff, as well as numerous nieces and nephews: Cheryl-Lee, Karen, Lorraine, Derek, Tanner, Lee, Stephen, Eric, Stuart, Ian, and Amanda.
After attending college and becoming a heavy-duty mechanic, Guy worked in logging camps for several years. In 1980, he and his business partner, Kurt, founded their own automotive repair business. Guy took great pride in serving the community through his work and remained in business for nearly 40 years before retiring. Even after retirement, he continued helping loyal customers whenever he could. Known for his remarkable mechanical skills and craftsmanship, Guy seemed able to fix or build almost anything and generously shared those talents with family and friends, helping with countless projects over the years.
Guy met the love of his life, Valerie, in 1975, and they were married in Campbell River in 1979. Together they built a loving home and raised four children. Family was always at the centre of Guy’s life. He cherished spending summers camping at Morton Lake, where the family created lasting memories and formed many lifelong friendships. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, and took great joy in babysitting and sharing special moments with them.
Scouting played an important role throughout Guy’s life. He was involved with the Scouting movement from childhood and later dedicated many years as a leader while his own children participated in the program. Through Scouting, he mentored countless young people and exemplified the values of service, leadership, and community.
Guy was also a devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church for many years. He faithfully served in numerous volunteer roles and even helped build the church in his younger years. His Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to share it with others. Known for his warm smile and friendly nature, Guy enjoyed striking up conversations with strangers and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and support staff who provided compassionate care during Guy’s many hospital stays over the past six months. Special thanks are also extended to his caregivers from Home Instead, whose kindness, dedication, and support allowed him to remain at home during this difficult journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 201 Birch Street in Campbell River. A slideshow celebrating Guy’s life will begin at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
